In the present invention, there is disclosed a method of decreasing attack of detrimental components of solid particle suspensions on heat transfer surfaces in heat transfer chambers in fluidized bed reactors, said method including: introducing solid particles into a dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) on the top of solid particle bed through an inlet located in said dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) upper portion, discharging the solid particles from the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) through an outlet disposed in the upper portion thereof, introducing into at least a portion of the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) a flushing gas for to inactivate and/or separate impurities detrimental to heat transfer surfaces from the bed of solid particles contained in the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416), discharging the flushing gas from the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) through an outlet (226, 326, 464) into a reactor chamber (212, 312, 412). Disclosed is also a fluidized bed reactor for carrying out the above-described method wherein the reactor dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) is provided in its upper portion with an inlet for solid particles and in its bottom portion with an outlet for the solid particles, further with means for introducing a flushing gas into at least a portion of the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) to inactivate and/or separate impurities detrimental to heat transfer surfaces from the bed of solid particles contained in the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416), and an outlet (226, 326, 464) for discharging the flushing gas from the dilution chamber (16, 216, 316, 416) into a reactor chamber (12, 212, 312, 412).
