A device for purifying water in a basin comprises a box-shaped transparent casing (3) which bounds a space (5) in which water fleas can be kept in numbers sufficient to purify water which enters the casing. An outlet of the device is connected to a filter (7) to prevent the water fleas from being transported into the basin. The device includes a cover (11) at the upper side of the casing (3) and the filter (7) at the top, connected to the outlet of the device via a connector (15).
