The gamma ray source (4) is located at the center of a labyrinth (3). The labyrinth has walls made from material which are impervious to the radiation. The products are loaded into baskets at a loading station (8) outside the labyrinth. The baskets are suspended from a carriage which runs on an overhead rail system, around the labyrinth to the end (9) near the source (4).
