The carriage (2) rides on a rail (1) inside an extruded plastic profile (3). Attached to the carriage is a roller motor drive system (13, 12, 11). The drive rollers (11) are in contact with the edge of the carrying rail (6) and move the carriage along. Also in contact with the rail (6) is a detector roller (18) which drives the input shaft (19) of the coarse position detector. When the coarse position has been reached an optical detector and graduated scale system makes the final fine adjustment.
