One side of the spacer element is flat and the opposite side has a raised cross-shaped profile (4). A concealed spacer element for keeping a reinforcing structure above a concrete body being cast or laid, comprises a body made from concrete or similar material, which has top and bottom support surfaces. At least one section extending upwards from the bottom edge of the element is formed by a cross-shaped profile. The top support surface (1) is flat. Independent claims are also included for (a) the use of the spacer element with the profile facing downwards against a hard shutterwork surface such as wood or iron plate, and the top surface supporting a reinforcing structure, (b) the use of the spacer element with the top surface facing downwards against a soft surface such as a Tempex or polystyrene panel, and the profile facing upwards to support a reinforcing structure or bar, and (c) the use of two of at least two of these elements, at least one element with its profile facing downwards and at least one element with its profile facing upwards.
