A vasoactive amine binding protein (VABP) that specifically bind to vasoactive amines with a dissociation constant of less than 10-7 M and which belong to the same protein family as MS-HBP1, FS-HBP1, FS-HBP2 and D.RET6 and which, is derived from blood-feeding ectoparasites, spiders, scorpions, snakes or venomous animals. The VABP is derived from ticks Rhipicephalus appendiculatus or Dermacenter reticularis. The use is for the regulation of the action of vasoactive amines. Vasoactive amines such as histamine and serotonin are mediators of inflammation and regulators of certain physiological processes in animals, including humans.
