The two paths (6, 7) for the moving parts (4a-4d, 5a-5d) manipulating the elastic parts (1a) are essentially parallel and also run parallel to the elastic part in the first phase (8) and parallel to the cover material (3) in the second phase (9). In the first and second positions (1b, 1c) the elastic part runs parallel with and inside the plane of the cover material to form the desired pattern (2), which is retained for a given time before application and fixing onto the cover material. A method for laying an elongated elastic part (1a) in a pre-selected pattern for application onto a cover material for disposible hygiene article uses first and second sets of moving parts moving in two continuous, synchronised paths running inside one another in a first phase where the elastic parts are picked up by one of the sets of moving parts. In the second phase the two paths are spaced apart and one or more of the moving parts guide the elastic parts into first and second positions spaced apart from each other. The two paths are essentially parallel and also run parallel to the elastic part in the first phase and parallel to the cover material in the second phase. In the first and second positions the elastic part runs parallel with and inside the plane of the cover material to form the desired pattern, which is retained for a given time before application and fixing onto the cover material.
