A method for the production of unbroken continuously cast slabs, plate or sheet from stainless steel of the grade AISI-310 employs steel of the following composition in % by weight: C 0.03 to 0.04, N 0.01 to 0.03, Cr 25.5 to 26.0, Ni 19.0 to 19.2, Mn 1.3 to 1.4, S 0.010 max., P 0.030 max., Si 0.06 to 1.2, boron 0.0023 to 0.0035, remainder Fe. This steel composition is melted in a furnace and a decarburising plant and the molten metal is poured into a ladle, from which the steel is poured into a continuous casting plant at a temperature of 1435 to 1445 degree C. Slabs of cross section 170 x 1050 to 1280 mm are produced. The slabs are cooled to ambient temperature in air and are then hot-rolled, initially giving semi- finished products with a thickness of 80 to 90 mm in a first rolling stage and then end products with a thickness of 6 to 15 mm in a further rolling stage.
