Decontamination processes wastewater by action of calcium hydroxide at concentrations near saturation and subsequent neutralization with carbon dioxide from atmospheric discharges, resulting in precipitation of sludge and calcium carbonate. These processes are characterized by use of calcium hydroxide in the treatment of waste water in amounts that may be higher than those currently used, i.e. in amounts which result in a pH above 10, which is the maximum pH that currently allows legislation on industrial discharges, and after precipitating and separating the sludge, subsequent neutralization with carbon dioxide from combustion gases. They have application in wastewater containing organic matter.
