Holographic recording material based on silica gel impregnated with methyl methacrylate. A silica gel impregnated with methyl methacrylate is proposed as a holographic recording material. Several characteristics of this hybrid material, such as its good homogeneity, high purity levels, dimensional stability, easy and precise control on the composition, inherent porosity with the controllable pore size, reactivity of the internal surface, possibility both of depositing films as substrates of large dimensions as well as of impregnating the silica matrix with a large variety of organic and inorganic materials are of interest whenever this material is used as a holographic recording medium. The material is appropriate for registering holographic grids of volume, of high and low spatial frequency, and of high diffraction efficiency (88%).
