LIQUID SPRAY AIR PURIFICATION AND CONTROLLED HUMIDIFICATION APPARATUS WITH AIR QUALITY MONITOR AND CONTROLLER

A water spray-based air purification system havinga humidification portion and a dehumidifying portion isoperatively installed in an air handling unit used torecirculate air within a conditioned space. A blowerwithin the air handling unit housing operates to drawreturn air into the housing, flow the air across theentire air purification system, and then discharge thepurified and humidified air back into the conditionedspace. A water spray portion of the purificationsystem is served by a pump forcing water from a sumpstructure through a filter, with the spray waterdraining back into the sump after cleansing airtraversing the purification system. Upon a senseddemand therefor, an additive injector adds suitablechemical treatment material to the sump water, and awater pollutant monitor structure operates to backwashthe filter upon sensing an undesirable pump backpressure increase or a buildup of particulate andgaseous pollutants in the sump water. The operation ofthe air handling unit and its associated airpurification system are automatically monitored andregulated by a programmable air quality and monitoringand control system which is coupled to multi-parametersensing apparatus that continually detects temperature,humidity and gaseous and particulate pollution levelspresent in the conditioned space or the air beingdelivered thereto from the air handling unit.
