TRANSABDOMINAL DEVICE FOR PERFORMING CLOSED-CHEST CARDIAC SURGERY

Surgical apparatus and devices are provided for performing closed chestcardiacsurgery. A multi-lumen substantially tubular channel is insertedtransabdominally togain access to either the pleural or mediastinal space for the purposes ofachievingless invasive cardiac surgery, more particularly complete revascularizationCABGsurgery directly on the beating heart. The said channel includes provisionsfor settingheart positioning and orienting devices, coronary artery stabilizationdevices, cannulae,catheters and sensors. The channel also has a provision such as designatedmultiplelumens and compliant seals for the introduction and preservation ofpressurized gaseswithin the accessed cavity. The principles and design features can be utilizedinbeating heart bypass surgery, valvular surgery, and general cardiac repairsurgery byproviding a means of introducing desired materials, surgical instruments,instrumentation into the accessed cavities.
