INTEGRATED AIN BUSY CALL RETURN/AIN CALL FORWARD ON BUSY FEATURE

A method is disclosed of conveying information from acaller to an intended recipient along a telecommunicationsnetwork where if the call cannot be placed initially becausethe recipient at a directory number (DN) is busy. The networkprompts the caller to select between either leaving a messageat a forwarded location associated with the recipient's DN,whether voice mail or otherwise or to be disconnected andsubsequently reconnected with the intended recipient when therecipient's DN is no longer busy. If the caller chooses toleave a message, the network connects the caller's DN with theforwarding DN and a message is left. If the caller chooses tobe connected with the recipient when the recipient's DN is nolonger busy, the call is terminated, the recipient's DN ismonitored so that when the recipient's DN is no longer busy, acall is set up by the network between the caller's DN and therecipient's DN, whereby the information can be conveyed.Apparatus for implementing this method using the advancedinformation network (AIN) protocol is also described.
