An all-electric conveyor system fortransporting a workpiece such as an automobile bodycomponent between stations where different productionsteps are performed. The system includes an electrifiedconveyor rail and a workpiece carrier movable along therail by an electric motor powered by the rail.Electrically powered clamps are mounted to the carrierand are actuable to alternatively clamp and unclamp theworkpiece relative to the carrier. The clamps arepowered by electricity supplied from the rail.
