A method and system for dynamic storage, retrieval and display of experimentalinformation with determined relationships. A graphical user interface ispresented from which shapes and arrows representing biological entities andtransformations respectively, can be input and edited. Multidimensionalinformation based on a pre-determined hierarchy is input to link the entitiesand transformations to additional information about the entities andtransformations. Related information, if any, is input to link the entitiesand transformations to other information in plural external databases on apublic network such as the Internet. Information associated with plural shapesconnected with plural arrows is saved as a biological pathway with determinedrelationships in a database. The biological pathway defines a hierarchicalrepresentation of a biological function with determined relationships betweenentities and transformations. Biological pathway diagrams such as cellpathways with determined relationships may be dynamically input, edited anddynamically generated to represent biological functions, such as cellularfunctions, to enable a user to visually interact with identified dimensions ofbiological information. A user may dynamically navigate through identifieddimensions of biological information to find out a relationship of a specificpiece of biological information with other pieces of biological information.The method and system may help facilitate the abstraction of knowledge frominformation for biological pathways and provide new bioinformatic techniques.
