The invention provides replication incompetent viral particles that areengineered to contain one or more primer binding sites that are homologous tosimilar sites found in one or more target wild type viral genomes.Accordingly, the invention also provides methods of using the replicationincompetent viral particles as controls for the detection and/orquantification of wild type viruses.
