A method of applying powder material for applying powder material sequentially onto respective surfaces of a plurality of mortars, which compression-forms molding materials, of a plurality of upper punches and of a plurality of lower punches, the method comprising the steps of applying powder material onto the upper surfaces of lower punches and the inner wall surfaces of mortars by spraying directly powder material dispersed in an air pulsation wave stream onto the upper surfaces of the lower punches inserted up to specified positions in the mortars, and at the same time applying, under the influence of an air stream rushing upward from below, powder material dispersed in an air pulsation wave stream to the lower surfaces of those upper punches that do not form pairs with the above lower punches.
