The invention relates to a device for the non-contacting scanning of the groove in the opening of a spectacle frame (2) and/or of the circumference of a spectacle lens or a spectacle lens former, and for storing the values obtained or directly controlling the machining of an uncut glass on the basis of said values. Said device comprises a holding frame which supports the spectacle frame (2), the spectacle lens or the former, and a light source (15) which is mounted on a support (14) and can be rotated in relation to the spectacle lens opening, the spectacle lens or the former about its axis (26). Said light source projects a plane-parallel light beam (9), which is substantially perpendicular in relation to the plane of the spectacle frame, the spectacle lens or the former, or a grid onto the inner outline of the spectacle frame opening or onto the outer outline of the spectacle lens or the former. The device also comprises an optical unit (11) which in the plane is positioned perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the support (14) and at a distance from the light source and comprises a sensor matrix for acquiring the image of the light beam (9) or grid in the groove of the spectacle lens opening or on the circumference of the spectacle lens or former; a measuring sensor (18) for adjusting the relative angular position Υ of the spectacle lens opening in relation to the axis of the optical unit (11) or light source (15); and a focussing device (19) for the acquired image of the light beam or grid, a measuring transducer for transducing the focusing signals of the focussing device into values for the distance between the groove base (4) or the circumference of the spectacle lens or the template and the axis (26). The sensor matrix is coupled to a device (28) for detecting the positioning height of the image of the groove or circumference of the spectacle lens or former, which device indicates the path of the three-dimensional curve of the groove base or the circumference of the spectacle lens or former in the direction of the axis (z-axis).
