The invention relates to a method and a device for tracing the circumference of a template or of a spectacle lens or of the base of the groove of a spectacle frame opening for the purpose of obtaining coordinate values of the circumference of the template or of the spectacle lens, or coordinate values of the base of the groove. It is characterised in that the tracer (feeler, stylus) is an adjustable pitot tube (nozzle), in that a constant initial dynamic pressure corresponding to an initial spacing between the tube and the circumference or the base of the groove is formed between the circumference of the template or of the lens or the base of the groove and the tube, and in that the adjustment of the tube is performed on the basis of the differential pressure between the respective instantaneous dynamic pressure and the initial dynamic pressure, the adjusted values of the tube being stored or used for the purpose of processing a template or a spectacle lens, or in that the tracer is a fixed or rotating pitot tube and the dynamic pressure, which varies depending on the spacing of the pitot tube from the circumference of the template or of the lens or from the base of the groove is used to process a template or a spectacle lens.
