A full-duplex speakerphone (600) that is coupled to a network such as a public switched telephone network (502). The full-duplex speakerphone includes a base station (602), which has a network connection and receives a network signal from the network. The base station also includes a speaker (520) for audibly outputting a signal derived from the network signal into a room in which the speakerphone is located. The base station also includes a wireless receiver (532) for receiving signals transmitted over the air from a wireless remote microphone (614) equipped with a wireless transmitter (534), the received signals being sent by the base station over the network.
