An ASIC application-specific module a comprising a required number of pins for given functions, in addition to extra pins acting as a reserve for subsequent redesign buffer, boundary scan devices and, optionally, basic logical functions are provided for the extra pins that can be arranged with a geometrically uniform distribution and act as inputs or outputs. Significant savings in development costs and development time can be made in the redesign process, especially in the case of minor design corrections.
