The invention relates to an electronic control device comprising a parallel data bus and a plurality of modules which are connected to said data bus. The modules each comprise a processor and a storage device and are connected to the data bus by means of a bus controller. The data is transmitted between a transmitter module and a receiver module using messages. The data bus essentially corresponds to the MULTIBUS II. The invention is characterized in that the bus controller of the transmitter module is configured in such a way that upon receiving a request message from the receiver module, said bus controller reads data stored in the storage device of the transmitter module without using the processor of the transmitter module, and the bus controller transmits data to the receiver module. As a result, the load placed on the processor of the transmitter module (I/O module) is relieved, and the communication between the transmitter module and the receiver module (raster module) is significantly decreased when negotiating or determining the data transfer and is reduced to a single request message.
