The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of titanocene dichloride (Cp2TiCl2) from the titanocene dimer (Cp2TiMe)2O, which is produced as a by-product from employing the reagent dimethyl titanocene (Cp2Ti(CH3)2) in the methylenation of carbonyl compounds, such as esters and lactones.
