The stato-reactor or ram jet engine comprises a body (5) with a combustion chamber portion (6) and an exhaust chamber portion (7). In the region (8) of transition between the combustion chamber and the exhaust chamber the body has a geometry which changes progressively from a converging longitudinal section to a diverging longitudinal section for low Mach speeds. For higher Mach speeds, the geometry changes to a longitudinal section which is practically constant leading to a diverging section. The changing geometry of the body occurs progressively as the speed of the aircraft increases.
