The invention comprises methods, primers and hybridisation probes for identifying organisms by means of comparative genetic analysis and is characterised in that coding, non-coding areas and/or functionally significant areas of highly conserved genes, pseudogenes or homologues are amplified using the PCR and then genotyped and analysed.
