A process for producing anion-layered double hydroxide intercalation compounds wherein a metal hydroxide is used as the starting material of a layered double hydroxide (LDH) as the host substance and an anion compound even having a sterically complicated and large-sized structure is usable as the guest substance. This process is characterized in that the product of the reaction between the metal hydroxide and the anion compound is subjected to a hydrothermal reaction by heating in the absence of any anion component other than the anion compound employed as the guest substance. Anion-layered double hydroxide intercalation compounds containing bile acid as the anion compound serving as the guest substance which are useful as drug carriers, adsorbents for physiologically active substances, etc.
