When a file is to be recorded, the file is recorded with dividing the file. File management information relating to the file, and file management information relating to each of the divided files are produced and then recorded.;Recording medium identification information for identifying a recording medium is produced from an ID of a recording apparatus which is used in initialization of the recording medium, and information of date and time when initialization is started. The produced information is recorded as an item constituting recording medium management information, thereby enabling verifying whether currently held recording medium management information corresponds to the recording medium or not.;The recording medium identification information is recorded so that it can be obtained from reproduction of any portion of the recording medium, whereby the time period required for verification is shortened.
