The invention relates to a method for increasing plant growth by promoting the primary growth of the soil micro-organism flora, at least in the area of the plant roots, by introducing aqueous preparations containing (a) ecologically compatible, oil-in-water-type wetting agents; compounds of silicon which are water-soluble and/or largely water-insoluble but still available to plants being introduced in the soil at the same time and/or at a later stage.
