Disclosed is a liquid phase alkylation process for aromatic hydrocarbons, which comprises reacting an aromatic hydrocarbon with a C2-C4 olefin in a liquid phase in a trickle flow region in a fixed bed reactor according to a cocurrent down flow reaction system at 100-300°C, the trickle flow region being specified by meeting the following conditions:ρl·ul·{(σwater/σ)(ρwater/ρl)2}1/3 (kgm-2s -1)20ρg·ug·{ρair·ρwater/(ρg·ρl)}1/2 (kgm-2s-1)5 wherein ρl, ρg, ρair and ρwater (kgm-2) denote liquid density of the aromatic hydrocarbon, gas density of the C2-C4 olefin, gas density of air and liquid density of water, respectively, σ and σwater (Nm-1) denote surface tensions of the aromatic hydrocarbon and water, respectively, and ul and ug (ms-1) denote superficial velocities in a column of the aromatic hydrocarbon and C2-C4 olefin, respectively.
