A process and device for reducing the dynamic effects and concomitant noise during the discharge of bulk material (8) from a silo (1). When bulk material (8) is discharged from silos (1), the movements of the material (8) can give rise to noisy vibration in the silo walls (2). This can result in the generation of very loud noise, "silo howl", especially in silos (1) with sheet-metal walls (2). The rate of flow (9) of the bulk material in the neighbourhood of the wall can be reduced and a wide wall shear region (33) created by means (26) forming a macroscopic roughness on the wall (2), thus reducing dynamic effects and undesirable noise generation during the discharge of bulk material (8) from the silo (1).
