The method involves measuring the optical path of the light through a fibre coil and computing the temperature-dependent timed alteration of the optical path of the light through a fibre coil (5) of the fibre optic gyroscope. The compensation of these drift alterations in the output signal of the fibre optic gyroscope simulates the timed alteration of the optical path on a model. The optical path of the light is measured by a modulation frequency produced across a variable crystal oscillator regulating circuit (16-18). An Independent claim is included for an interferometric fibre optic coil with a device for temperature compensation.
