The method involves measuring the optical path of the light through a fibre coil and computing the temperature-dependent timed alteration of the optical path of the light through a fibre coil (5) of the fibre optic gyroscope. The optical path of the light is measured by a modulation frequency produced across a variable crystal oscillator regulating circuit (16-18). An Independent claim is included for an interferometric fibre optic coil with a device for temperature compensation.
