A microinjection method (I) for introducing a material, especially foreign genetic material, into prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells and cell compartments (plastids and nuclei), using a nanopipette and pressure, is new. The nanopipette has an outer diameter of 0.5 - 2mm, an inner diameter of 0.1 - 1.5mm and a point measurement of 0.025 - 0.3 mu m and is filled with the injection material mixed with a warmth-expanding material. The capillary of the nanopipette is then closed with an adhesive, the pipette point inserted into the plastid, bacterium, cell compartment or nucleus using a microscope and a micromanipulator and the nanopipette warmed using a heating apparatus. The injection material is passed into the plastid, bacterium, cell compartment or nucleus (which has a diameter of 1 - 20 mu l) with a speed of about 1 mu l per second. An Independent claim is also included for a nanopipette for performing (I).
