The present invention relates to a method for automatically detecting dissolve editing effects among gradual scene changes that are frequently used for video data in video data analysis, and then calculating a first partial differential value of a video signal. After calculating the second derivative, if the magnitude of the second derivative is relatively small compared to the magnitude of the first derivative, the dissolve can be detected only by the partial differential value of the video signal, and the calculation required for detection can be made. It has the advantage that the time is so small that it can automatically detect the dissolve effect quickly.
