PURPOSE: A distinction method for 6 years old red ginseng and 4 years old red ginseng is provided to simply distinguish a 6 years old red ginseng and prevent a damage of consumer. CONSTITUTION: The distinction method for 6 years old red ginseng and 4 years old red ginseng comprises the steps of extracting an extract for 6 years old red ginseng and 4 years old red ginseng; performing thin layer chromatography by a specific developing solvent; and recognizing a band of a location which is indicated as Rf. If the developing solvent is petroleum ether/diethyl ether(7:3) then the location of Rf is 0.08. If the developing solvent is petroleum ether/diethyl ether(1:1) then the location of Rf is 0.13. If the developing solvent is chloroform/diethyl ether(1:1) then the location of Rf is 0.2. If the developing solvent is chloroform/ methanol(9:1) then the location of Rf is 0.5.
