PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting a servo error is provided, which records and reproduces a disk having first and second headers, an address region, and a synchronizing signal region. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for detecting a servo error comprises: a reproducing signal generator (62) for generating a reproducing signal containing a sum signal of a radial pair, a sum signal (RF_sum), and a push pull signal (RF_pp); a header region detector (64) for generating a header section signal which indicates a header region from the reproducing signal generated in the reproducing signal generator (62); a first synchronizing signal level detector (66) to be synchronized to the header region signal generated in the header region detector (64) and for detecting the amplitude of the synchronizing signal in a first header; a second synchronizing signal level detector (68) to be synchronized to the header region signal generated in the header region detector (64) and for detecting the amplitude of the synchronizing signal in a second header; and a balance computing unit (70) for computing a balance between the amplitude of the first synchronizing signal and the amplitude of the second synchronizing signal. Thereby, it is possible to stably control the servo and maintain an optimum recording/reproducing state.
