PURPOSE: Mass production method of laccase, which is a kind of ligninase, by fermentation of fungi is provided which uses nontoxic and cheap inducers instead of toxic and expensive aromatic ones. CONSTITUTION: White rot fungi such as Trametes versicolar, Coriolus hirsutus, Phanerochaete flavido-alba, Grifila frondosa, Phlebia radiata, Pycnoporos cinnabarinus and Botrytis cineria are tried to produce laccase. White rot fungus is inoculated in a the medium and pH of the medium is adjusted to 5.5-6.5. Laccases are obtained from the broth after one week cultivation, aerated and agitated properly. Addition of alcohol into the medium increases the production of laccase depending on the volume of alcohol being added. The activity of laccase is increased until the volume of alcohol reaches to 0.5-4.0 volume percent of broth but it is dropped quickly at 5.0 volume percent. Aliphatic alcohols such as methanol, ethanol or isopropylalcohol are used to increase the production of laccase. Addition of 2 % of isopropyl alcohol, methanol and ethanol in the medium show 4 times, 9.5 times and 15.6 times laccase activity respectively.
