PURPOSE: An apparatus for estimating the influence of rotation of a piston ring to engine oil consumption is provided to design and test an engine easily to decrease engine oil consumption responsive to a piston ring by analyzing the influence of rotation of the piston ring to the engine oil consumption. CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen is supplied to a combustion chamber(103) through an injector(115) and air is sucked through an intake manifold(117). The air is mixed with the hydrogen and then ignited by an ignition plug(116) at the compression point of a piston(105). A gas analyzer(203) detects CO2 content in exhaust gas discharged to an exhaust manifold(119). To detect the isotope of Co functioning as a radioactive material(301) in a top ring(107), a high pass filter is applied. That is, the high pass filter measures gamma rays from the isotope of Co except gamma rays of Ir. The position of the rotating top ring(107) is decided through the radioactive level of the gamma rays from Co.
