PURPOSE: A Cu-Zn-Ni alloy for an EDM(energy discharge machine) electrode wire is provided to increase the strength of material as well as to enhance cold drawing by not losing toughness at a normal temperature even if Zn content increases higher than 40%. CONSTITUTION: An alloy for an EDM electrode wire consists of 35-45wt% of Zn, 0.1-5.0wt% of Ni and the rest wt% of Cu by applying effect of Zn and Ni contents to the maximum. The strength and cold drawing is enhanced by addition of a small amount of Ni. In addition, the cutting speed rises up by development of the new EDM electrode wire increased in Zn content.
