The present invention relates to a method of digitally modulating a DMD system. The method comprises receiving at least one data stream of N bit data of resolution per pixel from the input device 30, inputting the data stream into the N input shift register 32, to generate a pixel of an image. The output of DMD 36 is combined and addressing at least N weighted DMD 36 to shift register 32, and activating DMD 36 based on the data stream. Other methods and systems are intervened.
