A fusible substrate coating (9), comprising layers (2,3) of different elements and/or alloys which form an eutectic melt, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) production of the above coating (9) on a substrate (1) by electro deposition of at least one of the layers (2, 3), by successive electro deposition of the layers (2, 3) from a common mixed electroplating bath or by PVD of at least one of the layers (2, 3); and (ii) a metal soldering or brazing process using the above coating (9).
