The melting and casting process consists of three phases, and utilises induction heating. At the first phase, under vacuum, the maximum power is applied to the material until its complete melting. The power supply is then interrupted for up to one minute. At the second phase a reduced power is supplied to the melt over a specified period, with constant regulation of the supply on the basis of a predetermined target value. The period length and the power supplied are adjustable dependent on the alloy type. At the third phase casting takes place under pressure, with reduced power supply continued up to the end of the process. Also claimed is a casting unit for the above process.
