The device comprises an infrared spectrometer and an endoscope with a light conductor to illuminate the investigated. At the proximal end, infrared light is fed from the spectrometer into the light conductor. At the distal end of the light conductor, a detector (12) receives and converts infrared light scattered at the illuminated surface, into electric signals. The infrared spectrometer may be a Fourier spectrometer with an interferometer which translates the electric signals into an interferogram and, by Fourier transformation, into an infrared spectrum.
