The device has a double plate resonator with 2 parallel plates of a material with a low characteristic damping, e.g. metal, quartz or glass, which are caused to oscillate in a flexure mode, with detection and evaluation of the frequency shift and the attenuation caused by coupling to a sample medium. The plates are oscillated and their oscillation is detected by attached piezoactuators and/or sensor elements.
