The method is carried out so that when the output signal of a conventional SQUID read out electronic unit (flow regulating loop) approaches a specifiable voltage, the value of a counter is increased or reduced by one, so that a direct current is increased or decreased in steps by an additional compensation coil at the place of the SQUID by a specifiable value. The output voltage of the conventional unit is reset at about zero.
