Catalytic hydrogenation of aromatic polymers with insignificant decrease in molecular weight using catalyst based on VIII sub-group metal with silicon or aluminum oxide support
Aromatic polymers are obtained without significant decrease in molecular weight when a special catalyst is used containing an VIII sub-group metal with a Si or Al oxide support or their mixtures, in which at least 10% of the pore volume has a pore diameter less than 600 Angstrom , a maximum mean pore diameter of 900 Angstrom , a minimum BET-surface of 100 m2/g, and a specific pore size distribution. Aromatic polymers are hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst which is an VIII sub-group metal or mixture of metals and an Si or Al oxide support or their mixture, the pore volumes of the catalyst diameters between 100 and 1000 Angstrom are 100-15% of the total pore volume, as measured by the mercury porosity method.
