A method for the production of thiuram disulfides

Preparation of hydrocarbyl-substituted thiuram disulfides (I) from a corresponding substituted secondary amine and carbon disulfide in presence of oxygen is catalyzed by a soluble complex of a metal of Group 3-7, 11 or 12. Preparation of a thiuram disulfide (I), substituted by aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic and/or aromatic hydrocarbyl residues, involves reaction of a corresponding substituted secondary amine with carbon disulfide in presence of oxygen (or a gas containing oxygen) and a metal-containing catalyst. The novel feature is that the catalyst is a metal complex which is soluble in the reaction medium, derived from a metal of Group 3-7, 11 or 12.
