The method is performed after compensation for course-indicating faults produced by the horizontal magnetism with the aid of the constancy of the vertical, horizontal or overall Earth's magnetic field strength . Several measurements of the magnetometer , as well as from possible measurement of the inclination of the ship, are made. The vertical magnetism (Rs) of the ship is determined for different inclinations, to correct the course reckoning.
