The waveguide concentrator is provided by an integrated optical waveguide chip (1) with a number of waveguides (10,21-25) provided in glass by an ion exchange process, the adjacent waveguides in the concentrator region (K) having 2 different propagation constants in alternation, e.g. obtained by a significant difference in the waveguide width. An Independent claim for a demultiplexer with a waveguide concentrator is also included.
