The method involves controlling slot machines which comprise at least one central control unit with a system clock and at least two game plans with a different winning- and/or pay-out scheme. A counter is set by the system clock to a predetermined start value, and a first game plan is activated at a predetermined point in time. The counter is changed with each game in the slot machine and/or a connected slot machine, and the central control unit activates a second game plan at reaching of a predetermined count value.
