The direct drive consists mainly of a linear motor (1), with a linear moveable active part (2) in effective mechanical connection with a displacement body (3), which acts in two directions of movement. The body is part of a hydraulic pressure generator (4). When the body is displaced, the pressure chambers (5,6) of the pressure generator are in direct connection with the test samples (9,10) via fluid lines. The motor may be electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or an IC engine.
